Sir Rod Stewart has swapped the concert stage for the sparkling waters of the Mediterranean, with the rock icon and his family enjoying a summer escape in Mallorca aboard a luxury superyacht.

The 80-year-old music legend has been spotted off Puerto Portals, one of the island’s most glamorous marinas, where his yacht has been anchored while he, wife Penny Lancaster and a small group of family and friends make the most of a relaxing Balearic break.

Fans were given a glimpse into the holiday after Penny Lancaster shared a series of sun-soaked photographs on her Instagram account, showing the family enjoying life on board the yacht and taking in the crystal-clear waters of the Balearic Islands. The images offered a rare look at the couple’s relaxed Mediterranean getaway and quickly attracted thousands of likes and comments from followers. Reports also said the group spent time browsing the exclusive boutiques around Puerto Portals before returning to the yacht for lunch.

A return to familiar waters

Although celebrity sightings are nothing unusual in Mallorca during the summer months, Stewart’s latest visit carries a sense of nostalgia.

It marks his return to the island around 25 years after a previous holiday in Puerto Portals, when he and Lancaster were photographed enjoying the southwest coast by yacht. That earlier visit came in September 2001 and remains one of several occasions the couple have chosen Mallorca as a Mediterranean retreat.

Stewart had also been seen in Ibiza earlier this month before reportedly making the short journey across to Mallorca, continuing a family holiday cruising around the Balearic Islands.

The yacht behind the holiday

While details of the vessel itself have not been officially confirmed, Stewart’s holiday reflects a growing trend among high-profile visitors choosing to experience Mallorca from the sea.

Puerto Portals has long been one of Europe’s premier luxury marinas, attracting superyachts throughout the summer. From there, visitors have easy access to secluded coves along the southwest coast, the dramatic Tramuntana coastline and nearby destinations including Port d’Andratx, Sóller and the Cabrera National Park.

For many celebrities, a yacht offers privacy away from cameras while still allowing them to enjoy some of the island’s finest scenery, beach clubs and waterfront restaurants.

More than six decades of stardom

Few artists have enjoyed the longevity of Sir Rod Stewart.

Born in London in 1945, he first found fame during the 1960s before embarking on one of Britain’s most successful solo careers. His unmistakable raspy voice has produced countless classics including Maggie May, Da Ya Think I’m Sexy?, Forever Young, Tonight’s the Night and, fittingly for his latest Mediterranean adventure, Sailing.

Over a career spanning more than 60 years, Stewart has sold more than 250 million records worldwide, earned multiple Brit Awards and Grammy Awards, and was knighted in 2016 for services to music and charity.

Away from the spotlight, he has been married to television presenter, former model and Loose Women panellist Penny Lancaster since 2007. Together they have two sons, Alastair and Aiden, while Stewart is father to eight children in total. The family are known for regularly holidaying together, with Lancaster often sharing glimpses of their travels on social media.

Mallorca’s summer celebrity magnet

Stewart is only the latest international star to be drawn to Mallorca this summer.

The island has welcomed a string of famous faces in recent weeks. Tennis legend Roger Federer has been spotted enjoying the island, basketball icon Michael Jordan has returned aboard his spectacular superyacht, while David Beckham’s dad has also been spending time in Mallorca during the holiday season.

From Hollywood actors and sporting legends to music icons, Mallorca continues to combine luxury marinas, discreet five-star hotels, world-class restaurants and breathtaking coastline in a way few Mediterranean destinations can match.

For Stewart, whose signature anthem Sailing has become one of Britain’s most enduring songs, there could hardly be a more fitting place to enjoy life at sea than the crystal-clear waters surrounding Mallorca. As another famous summer visitor drops anchor off Puerto Portals, the island’s reputation as Europe’s celebrity playground continues to shine.
