Hotel rooftop fall claims life of 65-year-old worker in Salou

A 65-year-old construction worker has died after falling from the roof of a hotel in the popular Costa Dorada resort of Salou, in what authorities are treating as a workplace accident.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Friday July 31 after reports that a man had fallen while carrying out work on the building. Despite the rapid response from paramedics and other emergency personnel, they were unable to save his life and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident has shocked both colleagues and local residents, particularly as Salou is in the height of the summer tourist season, with hotels operating at near full capacity.

Investigation underway

The exact circumstances surrounding the fall remain under investigation.

As is standard procedure following a fatal accident at work in Spain, the Mossos d’Esquadra and labour inspectors have opened inquiries to establish how the incident occurred and whether all workplace safety regulations were being followed.

Investigators are expected to examine the conditions on the rooftop, the equipment being used and whether adequate safety measures, including fall protection, were in place at the time of the accident.

No further details about the victim have been released beyond his age.
