Nueva Alcantara Club and children’s charity come together for a padel weekend with a purpose

Grab your racket, because on August 7 and 9, every smash and rally will be doing a lot more good than just working up a sweat.

Marbella supports for eleventh year

Marbella Town Hall has once again lent its support to the Nueva Alcantara Club (NAC) Charity Padel Tournament, now in its eleventh year and returning from August 7 to 9, at the club’s San Pedro Alcantara courts. Every euro raised will go straight to an education project run by the NGO Infancia Sin Fronteras, supporting close to 300 children in Niger.

Deputy mayor for San Pedro, Javier Garcia Ruiz, joined club and charity representatives for the presentation this week, describing sport as a wonderful way to channel solidarity. He encouraged padel fans and neighbours to get involved in an event that will genuinely help widen educational opportunities for youngsters far from home, and praised the friendship between NAC and the charity.

A cause close to the club’s heart

NAC chief executive Pedro Cabral admitted the tournament has become one of the most special dates on the club’s calendar. Even during the busiest weeks of peak season, NAC makes sure there’s always room for this small act of generosity, something woven into who they are as a club. Players and spectators can look forward to a weekend where every point played is far bigger than any trophy.

Where the money is going

Infancia Sin Fronteras president Luis Lastra thanked the club and its team, noting how much their loyal support means to the charity’s work on the ground. Funds raised will help a school in Niger caring for around 300 children, youngsters growing up amid a difficult security situation that has left many families displaced and struggling to access education.

External relations director Arantxa de Benito confirmed that anyone keen to play can sign up directly through NAC for €30, which includes a welcome pack for every entrant. A charity raffle during the prize-giving will add a little extra fun and fundraising. Those who prefer to sit back and relax can also go along to spectate and take in the atmosphere.

Celebrations begin a couple of days earlier, with a charity dinner at Hard Rock Hotel Marbella on August 5. Open to everyone, not just players, the evening promises a lovely night out for a great cause, with tickets available through the charity for anyone wanting to be part of it.
