Benidorm turns beach into open-air cinema as hundreds watch film under the stars

 Mal Pas beach became an unusual cinema auditorium on Friday August 7 night as hundreds of people settled down for an evening screening beside the Mediterranean.

Families, residents and visitors arrived carrying chairs, towels and snacks, transforming the beachfront into a relaxed open-air cinema. The event marked the launch of Benidorm’s latest ‘Cine en la playa’ programme, organised by the city’s Department of Culture and coordinated by Jaime Jesús Pérez.

The first film chosen for the series was Pixar’s ‘Elio’, which began at 9:30 p.m. The animated adventure provided a family-friendly choice for an audience able to watch the movie with the sea just metres away.

The combination of cinema and coastline offered a distinctly summer atmosphere, giving spectators the chance to enjoy a popular film without leaving one of Benidorm’s beaches.

A Different Way to Enjoy Summer Cinema

Outdoor film screenings have become a popular way of bringing cultural activities into public spaces, and Benidorm’s beach setting adds an extra attraction.

Rather than watching a film inside a traditional cinema, attendees could choose their own spot on the beach and enjoy the screening in an informal setting. The strong turnout for the opening session underlined the appeal of combining entertainment with one of the city’s best-known summer environments.

The programme is not finished yet. The next screening is scheduled for Friday, August 21, at 9:30 p.m., again at Mal Pas beach.

‘CampeoneX’ Comes Next

The second film will be ‘CampeoneX’, directed by Javier Fesser. The movie returns to the world of the successful ‘Campeones’ story, this time following its characters into athletics.

Admission to the August 21 screening will be free, with access available until capacity is reached.
