Marbella gets ready for a passionate night of tango as La Porteña returns

Marbella is hotting up for an evening of Argentine passion and dramatic dance when La Porteña Tango returns to the city with its acclaimed show Asi se baila el tango.

This passionate about tango will have another chance to experience the music and movement of Buenos Aires on Thursday, August 20, as one of Argentina’s best-known tango groups brings its latest production to Marbella.

La Porteña Tango returns to Marbella

La Porteña has built a major following across Europe since its formation, performing more than 800 concerts in 22 countries across four continents. Its return to Marbella follows previous appearances in the city, including a 2024 performance which EWN described as a celebration of passion, love and Argentine culture.

This year’s Asi se baila el tango takes audiences on a journey through the history of tango, from its early days in the neighbourhoods and ports around the Rio de la Plata to its place as one of the world’s most recognisable forms of music and dance.

Music from the traditional tango repertoire will feature during the performance, with the production also looking at the influence of Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla and the changes that have shaped the genre over the years.

Tango is far more than a dance routine. Music, dance, poetry and singing all form part of the tradition, which was inscribed by UNESCO in 2009 on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Argentina and Uruguay jointly nominated the tradition, which developed around Buenos Aires and Montevideo.

Previous EWN coverage has seen Argentine tango arrive in Marbella in several different forms, from La Porteña’s full theatrical production to contemporary performances in San Pedro de Alcantara. The latest event gives local residents and visitors another chance to enjoy the unmistakable sounds and choreography associated with Buenos Aires.

Noches de Tango: venue, time and tickets

Asi se baila el tango takes place at Auditorio Jose Pernia Calderon in Parque de la Constitucion, Marbella, on Thursday, August 20, at 10pm.

Tickets cost €25 and can be bought at the auditorium box office from Wednesday to Saturday between 7pm and 10pm, or online through mientrada.net.
