Costa Blanca residents and tourists can now report more crimes to Guardia Civil online

Reporting certain crimes to the Guardia Civil has become easier for European residents and tourists, including the large international community living on the Costa Blanca.

Citizens from 23 EU countries using electronic identification systems recognised under the eIDAS regulation can now submit reports online using their national digital credentials, without visiting a Guardia Civil station.

The change is intended to make the reporting process more accessible for European citizens living in or visiting Spain, particularly in popular international destinations such as the Costa Blanca.

British residents can also use online service

British residents are not covered by the EU identification system. However, those living in Spain can still use the online service if they have an NIE or TIE together with a recognised Spanish digital certificate.

This means eligible British residents can complete reports from home rather than having to travel to a Guardia Civil station for certain types of crime.

The system is available around the clock, providing another option for people who need to report an incident but do not require an immediate emergency response.

Which crimes can be reported online?

Reports can currently be submitted online for damage, theft, stolen vehicles, theft from vehicles and fraudulent charges made using bank cards or other electronic payment methods.

Lost documentation can also be reported through the service.

Forms are available in six languages, making the system easier to use for international residents and tourists who may not be comfortable completing the process in Spanish.

The online reporting service operates 24 hours a day through the Guardia Civil’s National Electronic Complaints Reception Office.

The expansion should be particularly useful during the busy summer season, when the Costa Blanca welcomes large numbers of international visitors and demand on local services increases.

Safe Tourism Plan presented in Alicante

The expansion was presented at Alicante-Elche Airport as part of the Guardia Civil’s Safe Tourism Plan.

The aim is to make reporting quicker and easier, particularly during busy tourist periods, while reducing the need for residents and visitors to travel to Guardia Civil stations.

Providing access through recognised European electronic identification systems also allows more people to complete the necessary procedures remotely while ensuring their identity can be verified.

The service does not replace emergency assistance, but provides a more convenient way of dealing with eligible reports that can be submitted electronically.
