Hollywood actor Adrien Brody has once again chosen Mallorca as the setting for a low-key getaway, surprising shoppers with an appearance at one of Palma’s busiest food markets alongside two well-known Spanish personalities.

The Academy Award-winning star was seen strolling through the Mercat de l’Olivar with bullfighter Cayetano Rivera and internationally acclaimed artist Domingo Zapata, stopping to browse stalls, chat with traders and sample local produce.

Rather than a high-profile public appearance, the outing was an informal gathering between friends, giving market visitors an unexpected glimpse of one of Hollywood’s biggest names enjoying the island’s culinary scene.

A friendship dating back almost 20 years

Brody’s connection with Cayetano Rivera goes back nearly two decades.

The pair first met when Brody was preparing to portray legendary Spanish matador Manolete in the 2008 biographical film. Determined to understand the traditions and discipline behind bullfighting, the actor trained with Rivera as well as veteran matador Juan Antonio Ruiz ‘Espartaco’.

Although the film divided opinion, the experience created a lasting friendship between Brody and Rivera, who have remained in contact ever since.

Their latest reunion in Mallorca highlighted that bond, with the pair appearing relaxed as they explored the market together.

Art, food and Mallorca

Joining them was Domingo Zapata, the Spanish-born artist whose colourful paintings and sculptures have earned international recognition.

Zapata has become a familiar face in celebrity circles, counting actors, musicians and sports stars among his friends. His relationship with Brody has developed through their shared passion for art, creativity and culture, and the two have been photographed together on several occasions over the years.

Mercat de l’Olivar proved the perfect backdrop for the trio’s catch-up. The historic market remains one of Palma’s best-known attractions, drawing both locals and visitors with its fresh seafood, fruit, vegetables, gourmet delicacies and traditional tapas bars.

Witnesses saw the group moving through the market at a leisurely pace, taking time to admire the produce and soak up the lively atmosphere.

From Palma to Sa Pobla

Their day did not end in the capital.

After leaving Palma, the group travelled to Sa Pobla, where they met up with friends to continue their gathering over more local food and conversation.

The visit reflected the quieter side of Mallorca that continues to attract celebrities looking to escape the spotlight. While luxury yachts and exclusive beach clubs often dominate headlines, many high-profile visitors are drawn to the island’s markets, villages and authentic restaurants instead.

Brody has long shown an appreciation for Spain’s culture, and his latest outing demonstrated that his affection for the country extends well beyond film sets.

Although shoppers were surprised to spot the Oscar-winning actor wandering through the market, those who encountered him described the atmosphere as relaxed, with the group simply enjoying a day out together.

For Mallorca, it is another reminder of the island’s enduring appeal to international stars, offering a combination of world-class food, culture and understated charm that continues to bring famous faces back year after year.
