Five million ONCE coupons have put Elche in the national spotlight while also highlighting the important role the organisation plays in creating opportunities for people with disabilities.

The special coupon, issued across Spain, celebrated Elche’s status as Mediterranean Capital of Sport 2026 and its commitment to making sport accessible to everyone.

Behind the five million coupons, however, is an organisation that has become an important part of communities across Spain.

Creating opportunities through employment

ONCE helps people who are blind or have serious visual impairments to live independently, access education and training and find employment.

For people who can face significant barriers when looking for work, that support can provide greater independence and the opportunity to build a career.

More than 21,300 ONCE coupon sellers across Spain have a disability, providing a familiar example of the organisation’s commitment to employment and inclusion.

Its work goes much further. The wider Grupo Social ONCE employed 80,000 people at the end of 2025, including 47,000 people with disabilities, while its employment programmes helped thousands more find work elsewhere.

The organisation also provides support with education, accessibility, rehabilitation, technology and independent living.

Inclusive sport takes centre stage in Elche

That community message fits closely with Elche’s ambitions for its year as Mediterranean Capital of Sport.

The city wants the programme to encourage people of different ages and abilities to become involved in sport, ensuring that accessibility and inclusion form part of the celebrations.

Further projects are planned alongside ONCE to promote those goals and encourage greater participation.

The partnership also provides an opportunity to use sport as a way of bringing people together, while highlighting the importance of removing barriers that can prevent people from taking part.

Elche reaches millions across Spain

For Elche, having its name and Mediterranean Capital of Sport status featured on five million coupons provides valuable national recognition.

The coupons will carry the city’s sporting message to communities across Spain while drawing attention to its programme for 2026.

But the partnership also carries a simple message beyond sport.

Whether helping someone into employment, supporting greater independence or making activities more accessible, inclusion creates opportunities for people to take a fuller part in their community.

This time, five million little coupons have helped carry that message across Spain.
