€16 million aparthotel with 200 apartments planned near Carabassi beach

A major new aparthotel planned close to Carabassi beach has moved another step forward, with the developer seeking an environmental licence for the €16 million project.

Miraclot SL wants to transform a 15,799-square-metre plot at Arenales del Sol into a tourist complex featuring around 200 one and two-bedroom apartments.

Plans also include six swimming pools, restaurants, landscaped areas, leisure facilities, outdoor parking and a large spa.

Three-storey development planned near the coast

The development would be limited to three levels, comprising a ground floor and two additional storeys, avoiding another high-rise development along this stretch of coastline.

If approved, the project would create a sizeable new tourist accommodation complex close to Carabassi beach, combining apartments with a range of facilities for guests.

The six swimming pools would form part of the leisure offering, alongside landscaped areas and the planned spa, while restaurants would also be incorporated into the complex.

The proposed investment in the project is around €16 million.

Previous plans included parking and camping

The site has already been earmarked for several different uses in recent years.

Permission was granted in 2021 for a 278-space paid car park, before proposals later emerged to transform the land into a caravan and camping development.

That project was eventually abandoned, although some foundations from the previous plans remain visible at the site.

Attention has now switched to the aparthotel, with the environmental licence application currently undergoing public consultation.

This stage gives interested parties an opportunity to examine the plans as the proposal continues through the approval process.

Location close to protected natural area

The site’s location close to the protected Clot de Galvany natural area has previously attracted concern from environmental groups over increased development pressure in the surrounding area.

Elche Mayor Pablo Ruz has said the plot is classified as consolidated urban land for tertiary use and is not affected by restrictions under the Valencian coastal planning framework.

The environmental licence application represents another step forward for the development, but it does not mean construction is ready to begin.

No construction date has been announced, and the developer would still need to obtain the necessary building licence before work could get underway.

If the remaining approvals are secured, the €16 million project would bring around 200 tourist apartments and extensive leisure facilities to the Arenales del Sol area.
