Torre del Mar Air Show roars back this weekend with 33 aircraft and new Mirlo Formation

Torre del Mar is preparing for a weekend of roaring engines, aerial aerobatic displays and parachute jumps as its International Air Show returns from Friday, September 4 to Sunday, September 6.

More than 33 aircraft will take part in the 11th year, with military and civilian pilots from Spain, Portugal and the UK. The free event offers three days of activity, with the main display taking place above the beachfront on Sunday.

New Mirlo Formation joins the line-up

One of this year’s biggest attractions will be the new Mirlo Formation, flying Pilatus PC-21 aircraft. The team will make one of its early public appearances at Torre del Mar, giving spectators the chance to see the aircraft in formation and say “wow!”

Military displays will include the Eurofighter C-16, A400M transport aircraft, NH90 helicopter, Patrulla ASPA and PAPEA parachute display team. Guardia Civil will bring a CN-235 aircraft, helicopter and parachutists. The National Police will also take part with a helicopter.

Civilian displays include paramotor flying, autogyros, light aircraft and aerobatics, with international pilots and teams.

Sunset Air Show returns on Saturday

Saturday evening will bring the popular Sunset Air Show, starting at around 8pm and running until roughly 10pm to10.15pm. Five displays are planned, letting spectators watch aircraft performing as daylight fades.

Sunday will bring the main event, with around 19 operational blocks scheduled between approximately 11.30am and 3.15pm to 3.30pm. Timings are still subject to final confirmation.

Aeromodelling, pilot poster signings and aviation stalls on Paseo Larios will add to the programme.

Torre del Mar hotels almost full

Accommodation in Torre del Mar is reported to be practically full for the September 4-6 weekend, showing the festival’s popularity with visitors. Organisers moved the air show to September to help extend the tourist season, with visitors expected to spend across hotels, restaurants and shops.

Admission to the Torre del Mar Air Show is free. Check the official programme before travelling, as training times can change.
