Former BBC Political Editor John Pienaar heads special weekend at Malaga’s St George’s Church

British expats in Malaga have a chance to hear one of the UK’s best-known political journalists in person this weekend when John Pienaar visits St George’s Church for a special evening of current affairs and conversation.

Former BBC Deputy Political Editor Pienaar will appear at the historic church on Friday, September 11, for a fascinating An Evening with John Pienaar: The State of the World. Doors and the bar open at 7.30pm, with the talk beginning at 8pm. Tickets cost €20.

Pienaar spent almost three decades with the BBC, becoming its Chief Political Correspondent at Radio 5 Live before serving as Deputy Political Editor from 2015 to 2020. He joined Times Radio when it launched in 2020 and remains a familiar voice to British audiences through its Drive programme.

His Malaga appearance promises a personal look at the political developments and international events shaping today’s rapidly changing world, followed by a live audience Q&A.

For British residents who have followed Pienaar’s Westminster reporting over the years, the evening offers a chance to hear his views away from the television studio and ask questions directly.

From Westminster to Fleetwood Mac

Friday’s political discussion will be followed by a very different sort of evening on Saturday, September 12, when St George’s welcomes The Chain, a Fleetwood Mac tribute band.

Music starts at 8pm, with the gates and bar opening at 7.15pm. Tickets cost €25 and visitors are invited to bring their own picnic to enjoy during the interval.

St George’s says this will be the final event in its popular picnic concert series, giving music fans an opportunity to enjoy Fleetwood Mac favourites in the unusual surroundings of Malaga’s English Cemetery.

Songs from the band’s long career, including tracks from the hugely successful Rumours era, will feature during the performance.

A special setting for a busy weekend

Located at Avenida de Pries 1, St George’s Church forms part of Malaga’s historic English Cemetery and regularly hosts religious, cultural and musical events.
