Four Costa Blanca communities are coming together this September for a charity walk supporting people living with Alzheimer’s and the families who care for them.

Residents of Rojales, Benijofar, San Fulgencio and Formentera del Segura are being invited to take part in the United for Alzheimer community walk on Sunday, September 20.

Charity walk will connect four Costa Blanca communities

The 8.25-kilometre route will begin in San Fulgencio’s Plaza de la Constitucion at 9:00 AM and finish at the Malecon del Soto in Rojales.

People do not have to complete the entire route to take part. Walkers can join along the way at designated points in Formentera del Segura and Benijofar, making the event accessible to those who would prefer to cover a shorter distance.

The route will bring together residents from all four municipalities for a morning centred on community support and raising awareness of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

Organisers are preparing for as many as 700 participants to take part.

Money raised will support AFA Torrevieja and local families

All money raised will go to AFA Torrevieja, the association supporting people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, as well as those caring for them.

The event brings together four municipalities with large international populations, giving British and other foreign residents an opportunity to join their Spanish neighbours behind a cause affecting families of every nationality.

Registration costs €4.50, plus administration charges, with the proceeds helping the association continue its work supporting people affected by dementia.

Participants can register in advance through the Chip Levante website.

Walk takes place ahead of World Alzheimer’s Day

The community walk has been organised for Sunday, September 20, just one day before World Alzheimer’s Day on September 21.

The international awareness day sees communities around the world focus attention on dementia, the experiences of people living with the condition and the important role played by family members and other carers.

For Rojales, Benijofar, San Fulgencio and Formentera del Segura, the United for Alzheimer walk provides an opportunity to show that support at a local level.

The walk starts from Plaza de la Constitucion in San Fulgencio at 9:00 AM before travelling through the participating communities and finishing at Malecon del Soto in Rojales.
