Alicante Castle Run attracts more than 1,000 runners ahead of October race

Promoted under the slogan “Two castles, one finish”, the event offers 5K and 10K routes taking competitors through some of Alicante’s best-known landmarks. So far, 1,088 people have registered, including 843 for the longer distance.

Runners will tackle Alicante’s two castles

The 5K race begins at 9:00 AM, followed by the 10K at 9:30 AM.

Both routes include the climb to San Fernando Castle, providing an early challenge for participants before they continue through the city.

Those entering the 10K will face an additional climb to Santa Barbara Castle. The longer route then continues through central Alicante before competitors make their way towards the finish at the Joaquin Villar athletics stadium.

With its combination of city streets, historic landmarks and challenging climbs, the Castle Run has developed into one of Alicante’s distinctive urban races.

The shorter distance provides an alternative for those who do not want to tackle the full 10K while still giving them the experience of climbing to San Fernando Castle.

Registration remains open until September 27

A maximum of 2,000 places are available across the two distances, with registration remaining open until Sunday, September 27 unless the limit is reached earlier.

Entry now costs €13 for either the 5K or 10K, with the price including a €1 charitable contribution.

Runners must be at least 16 years old to enter the 10K and at least 14 for the 5K. Parental authorisation is required for participants under the age of 18.

With 1,088 people already signed up, more than half of the available places have been taken ahead of the registration deadline.

Race will support APSA inclusive sport

The €1 charitable contribution included with each entry will support APSA’s inclusive sports group.

The initiative encourages people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to participate in sport, with a particular focus on opportunities during adolescence and adulthood.

This year’s Castle Run has also attracted an international field. Alongside the predominantly Spanish entry, runners from the UK, Poland, Germany, Belgium and Ecuador have registered.

The 12th Alicante Castle Run takes place on Sunday, October 4, with the 5K starting at 9:00 AM and the 10K following at 9:30 AM.
