Some of the best memories and friendships begin with throwing yourself into something new. On Saturday, October 17, the Miraflores Bowls Club is hoping a relaxed morning will give you that exact opportunity to start something fresh. For anyone who has ever watched a game of bowls and wondered what it feels like to play, this is your chance.

Free lessons for complete beginners

Miraflores Bowls Club is opening its greens on Saturday, October 17 at 10.30am for a Beginners Day aimed at the curious. Never held a bowl? Not played for years? Either is fine, as every skill level is invited. Organisers are providing a lesson and all the equipment at no cost, so there is nothing to buy or bring. Rolling a bowl towards the jack looks simple, but getting it to curve and settle takes a little practice, which is where the lesson comes in.

Calle Juliana in Urbanizacion Miraflores is home to the warm friendly club in the Riviera del Sol area of Mijas. Two perfectly kept greens sit amongst luscious gardens and palm trees.

The fully equipped club allows spectators to watch from a terrace with shaded tables, and the clubhouse, extended in recent years, offers delicious food and refreshing drinks to regulars and to holidaymakers who return each year.

Why bowls suits almost everyone

Lawn bowls has long been popular with the international community on the Costa del Sol, and it is easy to see why. It is gentle on the joints, quick to learn and playable at almost any age. Plenty of time between turns means conversation comes as naturally as the game itself.

Anyone new to Spain may find a club a ready-made circle of friendly faces, while longer-term residents gain a good reason to get outdoors and enjoy the beautiful weather.

How to reserve your place for October 17

Reservations are requested ahead of the day to allow for planning. Call 610 324 587 or email mirafloresbowls@hotmail.co.uk to reserve your spot and see if you catch the bowls bug.

So, if you have ever fancied picking up a new skill, a morning on a beautiful green could be the perfect start, and with autumn bringing the milder weather, its the ideal time to be outdoors.
