The first edition of the Sabor a Puerto marinera food route in Mazarron has announced its winners, with Restaurante Bruma winning the hearts of the public and taking the top spot for its popular take on the delicious traditional Murcian tapa.
Mazarron celebrates its first marinera food route
Organised by Mazarron Town Hall’s Commerce Department, the I Ruta de la Marinera ‘Sabor a Puerto’ ran from October 8 to 12, encouraging residents and visitors to explore the local hospitality scene in October.
Ten participants win local gastronomic prizes
The gastronomic event ended with a prize draw awarding ten participants experiences at participating bars and restaurants. To enter, diners had to complete a food passport containing stamps from at least four venues taking part in the route. The prizes included appetisers, rice dishes, desserts and meals for two, offered by beloved local businesses.
María Remedios Alburquerque won an appetiser for two at Buenavista, worth €40, while Fernando Condado received an appetiser for two at Sal y Almagre, valued at €20. Ana Fernández won an appetiser at Restaurante Bruma worth €30.
Alongside the prize draw, the route recognised the public’s favourite marinera. Restaurante Bruma won with its ‘Marinera Mazarronera’, featuring Russian salad and cured bonito served on a charcoal regañá crispbread.
Ten hospitality businesses participated in the inaugural event, each presenting its own interpretation of the traditional regional appetiser, which typically combines Russian salad with an anchovy on a crisp bread base.
Celebrating traditional flavours and local hospitality
The Commerce Department launched the gastronomic event to boost business for restaurants and bars in Puerto de Mazarron, showcase the area’s culinary offerings and encourage people to discover different and potentially new favourite local restaurants.
The first edition, a major success, has combined a culinary competition with public participation, giving residents and visitors an opportunity to sample local specialities, all while supporting the area’s restaurants.
