Marbella’s Hotel Don Carlos hosted a milestone celebration on Thursday as Frutas y Verduras Eladio marked its 20th anniversary. Founder Eladio Rueda and general director Macarena Valiente presented a company that has grown from a small family operation into one of Andalucia’s leading suppliers to hotels and restaurants, while outlining plans for further modernisation and national expansion. Marbella mayor Ángeles Muñoz attended and sung the praises of the company as an example of effort, professionalism and excellence that quietly underpins the town’s gastronomic reputation.

From the Guadalhorce Valley to the Coast

The story begins in the 1980s in Alhaurín el Grande, in the fertile Guadalhorce Valley. Eladio Rueda’s father, then around 40 and unemployed with a large family, started buying produce in local markets and delivering it by van to fruit shops, beach bars and restaurants in Marbella and San Pedro de Alcantara. What began as a modest neighbourhood business built on personal selection and reliable service grew steadily on the Costa del Sol.

Eladio joined the family trade as a teenager and took the reins around 2006 – 2007, formalising the company under its current name. That step marked the start of the 20-year chapter now being celebrated. The firm kept its emphasis on quality, freshness and close relationships with both customers and producers while scaling up to meet the demands of the booming hospitality sector.

Supplying the Costa del Sol’s Finest Tables

Today Eladio is a major force in the HORECA channel across the Costa del Sol and far further. It supplies high-end hotels such as Finca Cortesín, Marbella Club and others, as well as well-known chefs and everyday bars and restaurants. In 2024 the company reported turnover of €30.73 million, an 8.63% rise on the previous year, with more than 160,000 deliveries annually, over 1,100 product references and a peak-season workforce of around 150 – 180. Its facilities in the Marbella area and at Mercamalaga underpin the logistics that keep fresh produce moving.

The company’s Calma Eladio line, launched in 2022, strengthens its link to local agriculture. Working with producers in the Guadalhorce Valley (including long-term partner Pepe Álvarez near Coin) and elsewhere in Málaga province, it offers kilometre-zero and seasonal products with fair prices, full traceability and the growers’ names on the boxes. The dual goal is premium quality for restaurants and stable support for small farmers.

Professionalisation, New Products and National Ambition

The anniversary event highlighted a deeper transformation already under way. Over the past 17 months the company has reorganised its management, modernised systems and brought in specialist professionals across key areas. It is preparing new product lines, including an allergen-free gazpacho suitable for coeliacs, citrus juices and cut fruit, aimed at the hospitality trade. Institutional contracts for prisons in Andalucia, Madrid and the Levante, plus more than 2,000 Andalusian public schools, further broaden its customer base.

Madrid is the next major expansion target, supported by new roles focused on growth and finance. The company is also expanding logistics capacity. Rueda has described the anniversary as both a point of pride and an opportunity to prepare the business for the future without losing its core values of product quality, service and closeness to people.

Mayor Muñoz celebrated exactly that contribution, saying that Marbella’s gastronomic excellence depends on companies working behind the scenes and on the local producers who grow the produce. She congratulated Rueda, Valiente and the team, and thanked them for their commitment to the municipality and its social initiatives.

Twenty years after the current company took shape, and nearly four decades after the family first began deliveries from the Guadalhorce, Frutas y Verduras Eladio is positioning itself for a new phase of professional, diversified growth, that is still rooted in the same commitment to fresh product and the people who grow and serve it.
