British singer Jenny Ball, frontwoman of Jenny and the Mexicats, will perform an intimate acoustic concert in Frigiliana on Friday, October 30, offering music fans an evening with one of the region’s distinctive international artists.

The performance will take place at 9pm in the courtyard of Frigiliana Town Hall, bringing live music to the heart of the Axarquia village. The concert adds to the area’s cultural calendar, which includes events such as Frigiliana’s 3 Culturas Festival.

Organised by GMO The Label in collaboration with Frigiliana Council, the concert will give audiences the opportunity to experience Jenny’s music in a more intimate setting than the full-band performances for which she is best known.

From London to international stages

Jenny Ball is a British singer, songwriter and trumpet player who helped establish Jenny and the Mexicats after moving to Spain. The group formed in Madrid in 2008, bringing together musicians from Britain, Mexico and Spain.

Its distinctive sound draws on Latin American rhythms, flamenco, jazz, reggae and rockabilly, creating a lively mixture of musical influences that has attracted audiences internationally. The band’s official profile from its promoter provides further background on its multicultural origins and musical style.

The band features Mexican musicians Alfonso Acosta, known as Pantera, and Luis Diaz, known as Icho, alongside Spanish percussionist David Gonzalez Bernardos. Their different musical backgrounds helped shape the group’s individual identity.

Over the years, Jenny and the Mexicats have performed internationally and developed a following on both sides of the Atlantic. Jenny’s vocals and trumpet playing have been central to the band’s sound.

An intimate evening of music

Friday’s acoustic performance offers a chance to discover Jenny’s individual musical style away from the band’s usual full line-up. The event also adds to Frigiliana’s cultural programme, which features concerts, theatre and exhibitions. Details of local activities can be found on the Frigiliana Town Hall cultural website.

For local residents, international visitors and fans of Jenny and the Mexicats, the concert promises a musical evening in a distinctive setting.
