Fancy a bit of film-set spotting on your next coastal walk? Disney cameras are rolling in Manilva this week, and the cliffs of Punta Chullera have landed a part in a brand-new series.
What is being filmed in Manilva?
Parts of Fuimos eternos (“We Were Eternal”) are being shot around Punta Chullera, a rugged stretch of coast in the area of Manilva. Malaga-born director and writer Ramon Salazar created the series for Disney, and his crew has spent several weeks travelling the province in search of the perfect piece of natural scenery.
Why Punta Chullera makes a good film location
Rocky formations and the glorious sweeping Mediterranean views give this corner of the Costa del Sol a wonderful cinematic quality. Now those views could reach an international audience through a Disney platform.
Where else has the crew been filming?
Filming runs through October and November, with stops so far at:
– Maro cliffs in Nerja
– Caleta de Velez port, near Velez-Malaga
– Frigiliana, a whitewashed village in the hills
– Riogordo, an inland town in the Axarquia, the eastern part of the province
Axarquia Film Office, the regional body that helps productions find locations, also hinted that further Disney productions will visit the area in the coming months.
Who is behind the series?
Production company Anima Stillking is making the series. Salazar is no newcomer to the screen: his films include La enfermedad del domingo (Sunday’s Illness), and he has directed episodes of Netflix’s Elite and the Spanish prison drama Vis a Vis, known internationally as Locked Up.
What we still do not know
Disney remains tight lipped and has not made an official announcement, and confidentiality agreements mean the plot, cast, episode count and release date are still unknown. Fans will have to wait to find out how Manilva’s coastline fits into the story.
Local residents may well recognise familiar views when it finally airs. Anyone who comes across cameras on a walk can help by keeping a respectful distance, and who knows, you might have a story to tell when the series arrives.
