Several Mallorca charities supporting vulnerable people have received essential equipment and financial assistance following successful fundraising efforts by local businesses and community organisations.
The donations have helped provide practical support to women and children in a shelter, people receiving hospice care and men recovering from addiction, while also contributing to meals for homeless people.
Radio fundraiser supports island charities
Wave Mallorca radio station’s annual radiothon has helped fund two new washing machines for Llar Inge, a women’s shelter in Palma that accommodates more than 40 mothers and children.
The fundraising has also benefited Siloe, an AIDS hospice in Santa Eugenia, which received a new washing machine as well as financial assistance to repair another.
Meanwhile, Can Gazà, a residential home supporting more than 20 men recovering from alcohol and drug abuse, has received a much-needed new fridge.
The organisation also helps fund the preparation of around 300 meals each week for the Zaqueo soup kitchen, which provides food to people experiencing homelessness.
The charities expressed their gratitude to Richie and the wider Wave Mallorca team for their efforts in raising funds and helping meet these essential needs.
Clothes swap raises further support
Additional funding has come from Montego Bay Mallorca in Cala Major, where owner Clelia and her customers made a substantial donation following another successful clothes swap and social gathering.
The event gave people an opportunity to exchange clothing while raising money to support charitable work on the island.
The latest contributions demonstrate how local fundraising, community events and donations can help organisations continue providing practical assistance to people facing difficult circumstances.
How to donate
People wishing to contribute clothing and other items can visit the Yachting Gives Back (YGB) container at STP in Palma.
The container accepts donations on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 9.30am and 10.30am.
Organisers thanked everyone who contributed to the fundraising campaigns and donation drives, recognising the generosity of local businesses, radio presenters and members of the community.
The equipment and financial support will help the charities continue their work, from providing essential facilities for residents to helping ensure vulnerable people have access to regular meals.
