Maro is getting ready yet again to transform its quiet village streets into a stage of mystery, fantasy and family entertainment as the highly anticipated Maroween celebration returns. Combining traditional autumn flavours with Halloween thrills, this annual favourite is back on Saturday, 31 October 2026.

Local streets will bring ghost-filled decorations, costume contests, trick-or-treating, live concerts, and food stalls, making it a perfect celebration from late afternoon until the early hours.

Spooky parades and fun activities for young monsters

Festivities get on the way at 5pm with an opening parade led by the Charanga Vaso Largo brass band along with La Carpa Teatro. Children can get their fill of sugar joining the traditional trick-or-treating (truco o trato) through the village at 6:30pm, followed by a brand-new 7pm parade featuring eerie walkabout characters just as it gets dark.

Youngsters can show off their creative and creepy outfits during the children’s fancy dress contest at 7:30pm, which also includes a dance performance by the Gema and Jotxan Zumba Group. Meanwhile, a spooky gymkhana activity takes place in the local hall.

Nighttime entertainment, fancy dress contests and live tunes

Adults aren’t left out of the dress up fun as they step into the spotlight at 9pm for the main costume competition, accompanied by beats from DJ Toulalan. Official prizes for the best adult outfits as well as the most terrifyingly decorated house will be awarded at 10pm.

It doesn’t stop there. Singer Carmen Soto hits the stage at 11pm for a live concert in the main plaza, before DJ Toulalan returns to play dance tracks keeping your feet moving until 2am.

Seasonal delicacies and helpful tips for visitors

Autumn traditions flow throughout the festival with plenty of freshly roasted chestnuts and delicious sweet potatoes served throughout the evening. Food trucks and local refreshment stalls will also provide food and drinks leaving you fully stocked up to dance the night away.

Parking within the narrow village streets is strictly limited, making direct driving into the centre unadvisable. Visitors are advised to use the dedicated car parks at the entrance of Maro or catch public transport from Nerja. Admission to all festival events is completely free, offering families a wonderful chance to enjoy local Halloween traditions together. For full information visit the Nerja Town Hall website.
