Jàvea’s Halloween celebrations are getting a second chance, with the town’s much-loved Bubota Fest returning this weekend after an unexpected postponement left families waiting for their spooky night out.

The popular event, organised by the Comissió de Fogueres de Jàvea, will now take place on Saturday, November 7, bringing an evening of frightening costumes, family entertainment and music to the historic centre.

Originally scheduled for October 31, the festival was postponed following the declaration of official mourning after a railway accident in Toledo. The decision meant Halloween celebrations had to be put on hold, but organisers have now confirmed a new date, giving residents and visitors another opportunity to enjoy the festivities.

With the programme retaining its family-friendly spirit, the rescheduled event promises an afternoon and evening of entertainment for all ages.

Spooky street parade kicks off the festivities

The celebrations will begin at 6pm with a terrifyingly entertaining street parade, accompanied by the energetic rhythms of Batucam.

Starting from Plaza Marina Alta, the procession will bring Halloween characters, costumes and music into the streets of Jàvea, creating a lively atmosphere for families and visitors.

Residents are encouraged to get involved by dressing up and joining the Halloween-themed fun.

At 6.30pm, attention will turn to younger festivalgoers with the children’s show L’aventura dels pirates fantasmes (The Adventure of the Ghost Pirates).

The performance promises a mixture of fantasy and fun, offering little ones a chance to enjoy the spooky season without the scarier elements of Halloween.

The programme is designed to bring together different generations, making the event an appealing option for families looking for something to do in the Marina Alta this weekend.

Music, dancing and food until midnight

Once the children’s entertainment has finished, the Bubota Fest will shift towards an evening of music and dancing.

A discomóvil will keep the party going until midnight, giving older children, teenagers and adults the chance to enjoy the celebrations after the family activities.

Food and drink will also be available throughout the afternoon and evening, allowing visitors to make a full night of the occasion rather than simply attending the parade.

The combination of entertainment, refreshments and music is expected to bring a festive atmosphere to the historic centre, with the event offering a chance for the community to come together after the original Halloween plans were disrupted.

A second chance to celebrate Halloween

Although the new date falls a week after Halloween itself, the organisers are encouraging residents and visitors to embrace the occasion and come dressed in their most imaginative costumes.

For families who had been looking forward to the original October 31 celebrations, the rearranged date means the spooky season is not quite over yet.

The Bubota Fest has become a popular fixture in Jàvea’s Halloween calendar, blending the familiar traditions of Halloween with a distinctly local celebration.

The name itself draws on the Valencian folklore surrounding bubotes, ghostly figures associated with frightening stories and supernatural encounters.

With the parade, children’s show and evening entertainment all returning, the November event is set to provide another opportunity for the community to enjoy the festivities.

The celebration will take place on Saturday, November 7, with activities beginning at 6pm in Jàvea’s historic centre.
