Recently members and friends of The Baza Branch of the Royal British Legion met early in the morning to undertake a sponsored canoe marathon around the shore line of Lake Negretin to raise money for The British Legion Poppy Appeal.
The total distance covered was 20Km, with all participants completing the challenge. The average age of the volunteers was 55. The whole trip took five hours, finishing at Freila beach at 2pm where a much needed and relaxing lunch was enjoyed by the participants, their families and friends. A total in excess of €500 was raised for the 2011 appeal.
At the conclusion of the day everyone raised a glass and made a bumper toast to celebrate the 90th Anniversary of The Royal British Legion. The RBL Baza meets mothly and all are welcome.
