TAXI drivers should increase their rates by 4.38 per cent, Palma Town Hall proposed.
This increase must be approved at the upcoming plenary session and could be implemented in January or February 2012.
The increase was deemed necessary despite the current economic crisis as it has been three years since the last increase in rates, according to Matthew Bordoy, the president of the taxi association Pimem.
Meanwhile, the new shifts for the winter season were announced by Bordoy in the meeting attended by Mobility Councillor Gabriel Vallejo.
In November, cars with licences between one and 623 will have their shift between 1.45pm and 2.15am, licences 624 to 1,246 will have their shift from 1.45am until 2.15pm.
These shifts will be swapped in December. There is the possibility for taxi drivers to request that they always have the same shift.
