A SURFING competition due to be held in Vejer de la Frontera, Cadiz, was cancelled after a shark was seen in the water.
The ‘Volcom Toro Fish’ International Surfing Competition was suspended as a precaution last Saturday when the shark was seen 30 metres from the shore of El Palmar beach, just metres away from the surfers, who quickly got out of the water, causing much alarm amongst spectators on the beach.
The shark later disappeared, but was responsible for the first ever cancellation of a surfing event in Spain.
