Unexpected dinner course for volunteer firemen

Volunteer fire fighters based at Balcon al Mar in Javea, were called out recently while attending a dinner in their honour.

After an official meeting of their international local support group ‘Intersociedad Vecinos Hispanophiles’ (ISVH) during which Erich Brenner was elected President, the whole 120 member assembly along with the firefighters retired to relax enjoy a well earned annual dinner.

But is wasn’t long before the reality of the occasion overshadowed the festivities when much to the amazement of all, including special guests, Javea Mayor Jose Chulvi and Councillor Doris Courcelles, it was a case of swopping knives and forks for axes and hoses as the on-call guests, quickly offered their apologies before rushing off to fight a fire – in another restaurant.

Fortunately, the fire was soon extinguished, but too late for the guys to return and enjoy their banana flambés.

The ISVH organisation recently held a spring market at which €2,700 was raised for the Bomberos which will be spent on purchasing special fire protective clothing.

As Javea Mayor Chulvi commented afterwards, “We can never thank these brave people enough for the work they do in giving their time free time for all of us in the community, especially during the summer months.”
