THE Santa Monica School in Palma de Mallorca has asked parents to pay an advance of €60 each.
This amount would then be discounted from the payment in September.
A letter sent to parents stated: “As a consequence of late payment from the Education Ministry we require your collaboration in order to front the costs of the summer months.”
The amount owed to the school by the Education Ministry is reportedly €150,000. There are 2,020 students at the Santa Monica School.
Parents whose children participate in extracurricular activities, which cost €68 a month, and choose to help the school, will pay €128 in June, and then in September they will only have to pay €8.
Meanwhile, the total debt owed to 114 schools by the Education Ministry exceeds €6million.
