AN 80-year-old man was remanded in Marbella last weekend, accused of killing his wife.
The 73-year-old woman, an invalid, died the previous Wednesday, seemingly as the result of a fire at the couple’s home.
She was found in her bedroom at 6.15pm by her husband. Earlier that afternoon he had left their ground-floor apartment in Calle Alfonso Hohenlohe on the La Hacienda de Nagueles urbanisation to get some shopping, he claimed.
An autopsy revealed that her death could not have been accidental, as investigators initially believed. Instead it was caused by stab wounds received before the fire started.
Police now suspect that the fire was intentional, as a search of the couple’s home revealed that inflammable material was used to start the fire.
The husband was arrested last Thursday and remained for two days at Marbella police station. After questioning by the judge, he was remanded in custody last Saturday.
