THE imminent pumping of 500 litres of water per second from the Balsa del Sapo in El Ejido is starting to worry Roquetas de Mar.
According to IDEAL, the first problem this area will have is that when the reservoir starts to overflow several rural roads may be cut off. The other problem this town will have is at the mouth of El Cañuelo, a dry riverbed, which could also flood. There are also worries in this area due to the stench the waters will give off and pollution it will create, as well as the effect the situation may have on local tourism.
Nevertheless, environmental councillor Sonia Rodriguez assures that the Andalusian Water Agency currently is studying a solution for Roquetas.
