21 months for psychologically abusing wife

ALMERIA Provincial Court has sentenced a man to 21 months in prison for psychologically abusing his wife for five years.

The couple has two children. According to the sentence, he humiliated and threatened her repeatedly both at home and at the business they shared.

Both the wife and children testified that he had repeatedly ridiculed her, saying she was “useless”, threatening to “burn the office down”, saying that “too few women die, they’re all useless and one of them has to be you”.

She had not pressed charges earlier due to her desire to keep her family together and her affection for her husband. However, the abuse she was subjected to lead her to feel her safety was at risk.
