BUNCH OF PIRATES: CD Almanzora win the fancy dress prize
THE 26th San Silvestre road race in Huercal-Overa proved to be a great success with more than 150 runners taking part.
Added to that figure are the dozens of youngsters taking part in the junior races. A high number of runners took part in fancy dress and prizes were awarded to the group from CD Almanzora and the prize for the most original costume went to the group of ballet dancers.
The main event featured a non competitive race of 3.1 kilometres, and a nine kilometre race which is a key part of the festive sporting calendar and attracted runners from across the province.
Mayor, Domingo Fernandez, noted the high turnout of athletes who decided to run in fancy dress, adding colour to the day. “The mood among the public has been one of encouragement to all of the runners. The residents have not wanted to miss being able to enjoy this race which is now a tradition amongst our people,” he said.
