BEST BURGER: With Spanish appeal.

NEW YORK City’s best hamburger of 2013 has a Spanish flavour.

‘El Doble,’ created by New Yorker chef Alex Raij and Basque Eder Montero, was chosen the best burger of 2013 in the Big Apple.

The sandwich consists of a juicy patty served with pickles, onions, chilli pepper and Idiazabal cheese.

“A burger must be juicy to be good,” the owners of three restaurants in New York said.

The culinary couple presented their creation in a cooking show in Bilbao.

400 mini versions of the award winning burger were served accompanied with a glass of Txakoli (traditional sparkling dry wine from the Basque Country), with all the profits going to Charity Caritas.
