Population Boom: Torrevieja Mayor Eduardo Dolon speaks of the cosmopolitan city at the recent celebrations to mark European Day.
Torrevieja has exceeded its own records for population this month, by hitting the total of 108,000 registered residents.
According to figures released by the Department of Census and Statistics, there were 660 more registered people at the beginning of 2014.
The most striking increase was the number of registered Russian people, whose figure has now exceeded 5,000.
This makes it the largest in the country with permanent residence and includes the 110 new Russian residents registered in the last five months.
Of the 108,060 Torrevieja registered residents, 50,721 are Spanish (46%), 12,747 are British, 3,906 are German (a drop in both nationalities). Sweden accounts for 3,239, and Morocco 3,077.
In the census results, 116 nationalities are registered as residents.
