UNEMPLOYMENT DATA: The highest percentage is in the service sector.
UNEMPLOYMENT has fallen in the Balearics in August. The number of people without work fell by 0.24 per cent compared to the same month last year with 7,118 people leaving the unemployment register. The current figure now stands at 62,382.
According to data released by the Ministry of Employment and Social Security, by sector, 67.47 per cent of the unemployed are in services, followed by construction (19.44 per cent). However, the biggest monthly drop in unemployment also occurred in the service industry with 133 fewer people unemployed, and the largest increase in occurred in construction with 542 more people finding themselves without work.
As for ages, 8.9 per cent of the unemployed are under 25, while 51 per cent of unemployed are men. There are 11,116 foreigners without work, representing a decrease of 16.24 per cent (2,156 people) from a year ago with the majority of unemployed foreigners in the Balearics coming from outside the EU. Over 37,000 people receive some kind of benefit, representing an expenditure of €32.8 million
