A MAN who violently tried to rob three tourists at Malaga’s Gibralfaro castle had to be rescued after he fell into a ravine while trying to flee from police.

The alleged attacker had left a French tourist, 38, needing medical treatment for cuts to her arms. She had been attacked despite the fact she was with her 11-year old daughter. He also gave a 27-year-old American a bloody lip in another attempted robbery.

Once alerted Local Police rushed to the scene and cornered the attacker, but in an attempt to get away he fled into an inaccessible area, where he slipped into a ravine, hurting himself in the process. As police held a watching brief the man lit himself a cigarette and waited, first to be rescued, then to be arrested. It needed five firemen to reach and rescue the man, who was stretchered to waiting police before being taken to the Carlos Haya hospital. Police said the man, from Malaga, has a string of previous convictions for robbery and violence.
