SCHOOLS in Santanyi spent January raising awareness about road and traffic safety.
Seven new traffic signs have been placed around the town’s schools to improve pupils’ safety.
The signs have been made bigger than usual, in order to catch drivers’ attention and encourage them to be cautious.
In addition, some of the signs have LED lighting, new zebra crossings have been painted on the ground and speed bumps have been placed near the schools.
Mayor of the town, Llorenç Galmes, commented: “Even though schoolchildren must be accompanied by an adult, they are small and could cross the street without looking. That is why it is very important to pay the closest attention when we drive around a school area. We have to be cautious and drive slowly.”
