FIRE fighting teams from all over Malaga Province are taking part in a drill on Thursday April 30, which local residents will also be doing to learn what to do in an emergency.

The hypothetical emergency is a car crashing and catching fire, leading to a forest fire that approaches homes on the outskirts of Malaga City.

Due to run from 10am to 2pm, this is the first drill in Malaga’s history to be carried out so close to homes and include residents, the Junta de Andalucia regional government reported.

Pinares de San Anton urbanisation, with 2,700 residents, and nearby Valseca and La Cerrajeria with approximately 100 each will be testing out their self-protection and evacuation plans in collaboration with local and provincial police, ambulance and fire brigade teams, which will include helicopters from as far away as Granada.

The Civil, Materno Infantil and Carlos Haya hospitals in Malaga City will also be involved in the drill.
