A STUDY has warned that taking too many vitamin tablets and supplements, could increase the risk of heart disease and cancer.Experts say that over the counter supplements are promoted for their health benefits but exceeding the recommended daily amount could actually have a counter effect. The University of Colorado Cancer Centre, said: “We are not sure why this is happening at the molecular level but evidence shows that people who take more dietary supplements than needed tend to have a higher risk of developing cancer.”The researchers studied thousands of patients for 10 years who were taking dietary supplements and placebos and found that the supplements had no beneficial impact on their health and some actually got more cancer while on the vitamins. The researchers said there is “no substitute for good, nutritional food.”
