HOSPITALS and health centres in Alicante Province need a further 1,300 nurses to reach the national average of 573.59 professionals per 100,000 residents.The Nursing Council of Valencia (CECOVA) claims that the community occupies 16th place in the national ranking in terms of ratio of professionals with the region as a whole having 508.02 nurses per 100,000 inhabitants.This is “a figure well below the national average,” the council says and urges the government to give greater importance to nurses who can resolve almost 80 per cent of citizens’ health problems.The figures were released to coincide with International Nurses Day.
