PARENTS in El Campello, Alicante, can get help with the expense of costly schoolbooks from the People’s Solidarity Network (RSP).The group is manning a collection point where used textbooks may be dropped off for re-use at the El Campello market on Wednesdays and also at their offices in Calle Santa Teresa 31 in the town on Tuesday and Thursdays from 11am-1pm and from 7-9pm.School textbooks are not freely provided by the Department of Education in Spain with the costs rising to hundreds of euros per child each year. For families with one parent out of work or even both, the task of acquiring books is difficult, leaving the children to struggle with photocopies of assigned work or sharing books with other students.RSP sets up social initiatives in the cause of free education and the matter of free school textbooks is one that is addressed by the group every year as many schools do not run a book bank, meaning that books that are in a perfectly acceptable condition can end up being wasted.
