THE Commission for Judicial Police of Alicante has approved a proposal which will force habitual pickpockets and shoplifters to live outside the city. The plan will place a restriction on city living for serial offenders and also proposes making shops and supermarkets civil plaintiffs in proceedings for theft.Should the new system be adopted, restraining orders will be issued preventing pickpockets and petty criminals from approaching shopping zones where they have been convicted of three previous thefts. In severe cases, offenders could be banned from entering the municipality completely although each case will be assessed individually.
