THIS year 13,025 baby flamingos have been born at Fuente de Piedra Lagoon nature reserve. On August 8, more than 425 volunteers will be heading to the reserve to help fit the new arrivals with identification rings, inspect and measure them. A group of vets will be on hand to treat any injuries or illnesses found before the flamingos are released.Although photographs taken from the air have been used to count the exact number of flamingos that come to the lagoon to reproduce and the number of babies born, this year drones were used to take the photos for the first time.Between 1986 and 2014 a total of 188,383 flamingos have been born at the nature reserve.
