SEVERAL workshops and a fuel tank went up in flames at Calanova Sailing Club. The fire started at around 6pm on Monday (August 10) and firefighters from Palma attended the scene to put out the flames which began in a carpentry workshop and spread to other warehouses, one of which had a tank with around 1,000 litres of fuel.
Local and National Police and paramedics attended the scene and the road had to be closed to traffic. The sailing school was evacuated immediately the fire was detected as a precaution and no-one is believed to have been injured.
A column of thick smoke could be seen from several areas in Palma but the fire was put out by nightfall.
