River Gorgos.
SUMMER is here and with that there is a huge increase of traffic on the roads, and to most drivers the roads are unfamiliar.
The number of visitors to the Marina Alta has increased over the years and with many living in mainland Europe the number of foreign-plated cars has increased as well. During the summer season the roads become congested but accidents can happen even at a quiet time on an empty road.
In Javea on Friday August 7, at 4.50am a car drove over the sea wall near the mouth of the River Gorgos and ended up on the beach with substantial damage. Apparently the driver lost control as he took the bend and the car flipped over many times before coming to rest on the beach.
The occupants, two men, were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The driver was tested for alcohol and drugs but the results have not been released.
