NIJAR Council has announced a new project which, if approved next month, is guaranteed to cause rows as it intends to reclaim private land by Cabo de Gata Natural Park to create better access to the beaches.
The project, which will be presented for approval at a plenary session next month, deputy mayor and Beaches councillor Alexis Pineda announced, aims to allow the town to start providing services including cleaning, maintenance and surveillance in the bays within its part of the park and create easier access to the beaches by taking back the required land.
Pineda said that he understood the project would be a controversial one which could raise many hackles but explained that it would hopefully recover the bays as a quality destination.
