DONATIONS have helped treble the number of books on offer from Malaga City’s Clinico Hospital mobile library service, the Junta de Andalucia regional government has reported.
The service, which loans out about 1,400 books per year and has been running since 1987, now has more than 6,000 books in 14 different languages to offer patients and companions.
Volunteers tour the wards each morning with trolleys, and also carry catalogues with all available books detailed, enabling patients to place orders.
The service, volunteers explained, is very popular with both patients and companions who find reading a way to help pass time and cheer them up during their stays. Adventure and mystery novels are the most popular although classics are also in high demand.
