“Space debris” found by shepherds in a field in Murcia

SHEPHERDS in Murcia stumbled across an unusual object while out in the fields this week and authorities in Spain have said that it may be a part of a rocket which fell to earth.

Brothers Francisco and Juan Espin del Amo described a grey oval item which they said “must have fallen from the sky.”

The shepherds initially assumed the material had come from a military aircraft which had been doing exercises in the area recently.

The Civil Guard were alerted and they put their NRBQ protocol into place, deploying experts to the scene to investigate for nuclear, radiological, bacterial or chemical threats. The experts did tests on the object and confirmed that it had come from space, saying that it could be an auxiliary fuel tank off a rocket.

A Civil Guard spokesman said such objects are discovered around the world from time to time,

“A few years ago similar objects were discovered in Brazil and Australia,”

The shepherd´s family began investigations of their own and their cousin believes that the discovery could be part of a space station.

“These objects are made of a material that is so resistant it survives intact even after reentering the earth’s atmosphere,” he said.
