THE fourth edition of the prestigious Benalmadena Golf Tournament will be held at the scenic Torrequebrada Golf Club on March 5. The well attended event has gone from strength to strength with each passing year as it attracts attention from both domestic and international players and fans.
The tournament is aimed at amateur players of any category, older than 18 years old, and registered in the Spanish Royal Golf Federation, or with handicap certificates from their original clubs. Perhaps the pre-eminent golf tournament across the Costa del Sol, it has seen local officials attempt to weave tourism and business into its promotion. Golf tourism is an important asset for Benalmadena, as it has three major golf courses.
Three different categories are represented in the championship. The first one, up to an 11.4 handicap will be played under Medal Play rules. The second and third categories will be played under Stableford rules. The three best players of each category will receive a trophy.
Those interested in participating will need to follow the corresponding steps through www.golfspain.com or at the Torrequebrada Golf Club facilities.
Torrequebrada was the host course of the 1977 Spanish Open and is well regarded among professional and amateur players alike. There is a solid variety of holes and, being in the Costa del Sol, the strong likelihood of some fantastic golfing weather.
