Taylor was appointed England manager in 1990 but resigned when they failed to qualify for the 1994 World Cup
Former England football manager Graham Taylor has died of a suspected heart attack at the age of 72. A former player with Grimsby and Lincoln City, he managed the national side from 1990 to 1993.
He resigned after the side’s failure to qualify for the 1994 World Cup in the USA. A family statement said they were “devastated by this sudden and totally unexpected loss.”
As a manager Taylor took Watford to the FA Cup Final in 1984 but they were defeated by Everton. After a long career in the game, Taylor worked for many years as a TV and radio pundit.
