WHEN a 31-year-old man from Almansa got into trouble whilst canyoning on the Guadalquivir River, a Guardia Civil helicopter was sent to help him.
This sport which was developed in the USA consists of an individual or group jumping into a fast flowing stream or river and allowing themselves to be carried downstream at speed.
In this case, as the area in which the man was injured had such limited access, it was necessary to send out a helicopter to rescue him but even the experienced Guardia Civil pilot had difficulty in landing safely.
Once officers managed to reach the man, he was placed on a stretcher and then evacuated to the Baza Hospital in Granada Province.
