THE provincial government and the Spanish Golf Federation have come together to promote the Costa de Almeria as a golfing destination.

The province’s tourism brand will be the official sponsor of the Masculine Senior Professional Spanish National Championship, considered the most important event staged in the country, and which this year will be played in Almeria.

Some 100 sportsmen are expected to take part in the autumn championship, which, the Diputacion pointed out, would also bring the media, sponsors and spectators to the region.

The provincial administration said the event would make Almeria the “epicentre of golf at national level”, raising the province’s profile as a year-round destination for golfers, whether training or playing.

“Celebrating an event of these characteristics in our province will put us on the national level competition map and on the agenda of golf enthusiasts and professionals around the world”, commented Tourism Deputy Fernando Gimenez.
